Mapleview Cemetery is the predominate cemetery in the small western Kentucky town of Marion. There is an association of people that act as monitors or oversight over the cemetery. For the most part the cemetery roads are in fairly good condition with some being paved and others still gravel. Mowing is usually on a regular schedule and the cemetery, which I have visited many times, is generally in fairly good condition. There is a large unused section of the property located at the end of the current cemetery and one may find that area with grain being grown. I do not know of future plans for that section.
Almost every church located in Crittenden County has their own cemetery where their members are usually buried. Having attended several funerals in Crittenden County there are a great number of these private cemeteries. Currently there are two funeral homes located in Marion and this cemetery will be the one most often used by those funeral homes for locals not associated with one of the churches located in the county.
Mapleview Cemetery is located inside the city limits just off Highway 81 which goes to Cave In Rock, Il. There is a large rock column entrance, which is surrounded by houses and business on both sides. This is private property and not part of the cemetery. A short drive on the paved cemetery road, named Mapleview Drive, and one comes to the Military section located to the right. That is a very nice section dominated by military style cross markers and an arch area that presides over the stones. Past military from several wars are buried here. There is a large flag pole and bricks with names of service people form a walkway into the cross area. Of all the times I have been here this section has always been well manicured.
A few feet further there are several roads turning to the right and eventually roads turning to the left. For the most part the first roads (or streets) contain the older parts of the cemetery. In the older sections many of the headstones date back many years. As one travels through the cemetery they will notice a lot of vacant space to the right, however much of the space on the left contains markers.
There are ten streets or roads that turn left off the main road. The tenth road is the last road and that is bordered by a large field usually planted with some type of grain. That is future development property and belongs to the cemetery association. Mapleview Drive actually circles most of the cemetery.
